Janine Rogers
Biography
I am the Head of Department, the Reverend William Purvis Chair of English Literature, and the Professor of Medieval and Sixteenth-Century Literature in the Department of English Literatures at 蜜桃视频 Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada. I specialize in interdisciplinary approaches to literature and my current primary research area is in the field of literature and science. I am the author of two monographs: Eagle (Reaktion Press, 2015) and Unified Fields: Science and Literary Form (McGill-Queen's University Press, 2014). My current teaching activities include courses and supervisions in medieval literature, literature and collecting, literature and the environment, and science and literature; I was awarded the J. E. A. Crake Teaching Award in the Faculty of Arts in 2010. From 2010 to 2012 I was the Director of "CultureWorks," an interdisciplinary funding program at 蜜桃视频 Allison supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). My current research includes a collaborative SSHRC-funded project (with Professor John Holmes, University of Birmingham), "Building the Book of Nature: The Poetics of the Natural History Museum," on the intellectual heritage of medieval manuscript culture in the history of science and natural history museums. I am also researching Chaucer's Treatise on the Astrolabe with Dr. Samuel Gessner of the University of Lisbon, focusing on text-instrument relations in the history and literature of science.
