Employment Insurance (EI) for students by participating province.
Newfoundland and Labrador
Eligibility criteria:
- Canadian/Permanent residents of NF (legally entitled to work in Canada);
- Have a current regular EI claim;
- Have an active employment plan that is linked to the post-secondary education being pursued;
- Meet the definition of an EI insured participant; and
- Be deemed to have made the transition from school to work. This means that the individual must have been out high school for a minimum of two years. During the two-year period, the individual must have been working or looking for work.
Required documentation:
- Application received at least six weeks prior to the start date of the training program that begins in September;
- Program Cost Form
- Client Consent Form

Nova Scotia-Fast Forward program
Eligibility criteria:
- Canadian/Permanent residents of NS (legally entitled to work in Canada);
- Have a current regular EI claim;
- Must have been out of secondary school for a minimum of 12 months;
- Successfully accepted to an 鈥渆ligible鈥 training program;
- Have a financial plan in place for the full duration of training;
- Be able to pay for own training costs including tuition and books.
Required documentation:
- NS-Fast Forward Application
- A letter issued by the training institution providing confirmation of acceptance or proof of enrollment to the training program

Prince Edward Island-Career Connect program
Eligibility criteria:
- Canadian/Permanent residents of PEI (legally entitled to work in Canada);
- Have a current regular EI claim;
- Must have been out of secondary school for a minimum of 12 months;
- Successfully accepted to an 鈥渆ligible鈥 training program;
- Have financial resources to pay all 鈥渢raining costs鈥 including tuition and books.
