Entrance scholarship renewal

If you were the recipient of a renewable entrance or major scholarship during your first year, a review of your student records will be completed at the end of each academic year to determine if you've met the renewal criteria.

What is the renewal criteria?

Entrance scholarships: achieving a 3.7 GPA on a course load of 30 course credits between the fall and winter terms.

Major scholarships: some major scholarships may have different renewal criteria. The recipients of these awards are contacted directly and provided their unique renewal criteria in writing.

If you meet the renewal criteria.

If renewal criteria has been met: you will be notified by email.

Your Connect financial accounts will be updated with two equal installments of total value in October and January of the following year.

If you don't meet the renewal criteria.

If renewal criteria has not been met: your scholarship is revoked.

Official correspondence will be sent to notify you of this decision and provide instructions on an official appeal process.

 

Automatic consideration scholarships
for current students

Current students will automatically be considered for these scholarships if you meet the criteria. They do not require an application.

University general scholarship

All current students who do not currently hold a renewable entrance scholarship and who carry a full course load are automatically considered for a non-renewable University General Scholarship (UGS).

This scholarship is awarded to the top students in each program.

Eligibility criteria:

  • must not currently hold a ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Allison University entrance scholarship
  • must have completed a full course load of 30 credits in the previous fall and winter academic terms
  • must attain a 3.7 GPA or better on the 30 credits undertaken in the previous fall and winter academic terms

The value of a University Scholarship is currently set at $750.

Eligible students will be re-evaluated for this scholarship at the end of each academic year.

Departmental awards

ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Allison offers a variety of departmental awards.

The recipients of these awards are recommended to the financial aid and awards counsellor by their relevant professors or department heads.

Students are encouraged to ask their academic department for information on available scholarships.

Criteria for eligibility and value vary and are managed differently within each academic department.

 

Scholarships and awards requiring application

The following scholarships and awards are available to current students and require submitting an application. Make sure to meet the criteria and to submit your application by the deadline.

Class of '65 Millennium Scholarship

Value: varies ($2,500 average)
Deadline: Nov. 1

The Class of 1965 seeks to support students in financial need who were not granted entrance scholarships, however, have made significant academic improvements or extracurricular impacts within the MtA community. 

Quantity: varies (3 average)

Criteria:

  • Must be returning student to ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Allison
  • Must show evidence of financial need
  • Did not qualify for entrance scholarships
  • Must meet a minimum of one of the following criteria:
    • Achieved high academic standing in first year OR
    • Demonstrated significant improvement in a returning year by attaining a top 5% GPA OR
    • Has demonstrated strong capabilities in the MtA community in one of the following areas: athletics, student administration, student organizations/societies, arts and cultural activities or volunteer work

CN Brown Scholarship

Value: Varies ($1,300 average)
Deadline: Nov. 1

These scholarships seek to support students who are entering their final year of study at ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Allison, have contributed to ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Allison via extracurriculars, and who are facing financial hardships.

Quantity: 3

Criteria:

  • Must be entering their final complete year of an undergraduate degree program
  • Must have a good academic record (75% or better)
  • Must have contributed significantly to extra-curricular activities
  • Must describe the course of study which they intend to follow in the scholarship year
  • Must outline what career or further studies they plan to pursue after graduation
  • Must show some evidence of financial need

Gibbens Lassonde Performance Award for Art History/Museum and Curatorial Studies

Value: $7,000 (non-renewable)
Deadline: April 21, 4 p.m. (AST)

These performance awards have been initiated to support a student pursuing excellence in the study of Art History and/or Museum and Curatorial Studies at the Pierre Lassonde School of Fine Arts.

Students will be evaluated on their application package, to include one writing sample, any gallery or museum practice (volunteering and other initiatives) and academic performance (GPA).

Eligibility:

  • students who have declared a major or minor in Art History, or a minor in Museum and Curatorial Studies
  • third-year students who will be entering their fourth-year of studies in the next academic year

How to apply:

Eligible students must submit the following:

  • letter of application outlining goals and future interests
  • resume or CV
  • samples of relevant written work relating to visual art; essays or reviews (to a maximum of 10 pages)

Selection timeline: Results will be communicated in mid-May.

Gibbens Lassonde Performance Awards (Fine Arts students)

Value: $7,000 (non-renewable) each
Deadline: April 21, 4 p.m. (AST)

The Gibbens Lassonde Performance Awards are open to full-time Fine Arts students at the Pierre Lassonde School of Fine Arts.

This performance award has been initiated to recognize a student's overall accomplishment in pursuing their artistic practice.

Award Eligibility
First-year students award Quantity: 1
For students who will be entering their second year of studies and are enrolled in 2000 level FINA courses in the next academic year.
Second-year students award Quantity: 1
For students who will be entering their third year of studies and are enrolled in 3000 level FINA courses in the next academic year.
Third-year students award Quantity: 2
For students who will be entering their fourth year of studies and are enrolled in 4000 level FINA courses in the next academic year.

How to apply:

Eligible students must submit the following:

  • Letter of application that addresses all the following questions:
    • Reflect upon what you have learned and accomplished in your studio courses. Give specific examples. (150 words or less)
    • Describe your goals as an emerging artist, both in your remaining years in the Fine Arts program and after graduation. (150 words or less)
    • Explain how this award will help you. (150 words or less)
    • List any extracurricular activity, employment or volunteer work that is arts-related and relevant to your application.
  • 10 images of your work (up to 10 artworks, including details, 1MB per image max.), and/or links to 5-minute video/audio produced during the current academic year
  • An image list that includes title, size, medium, date, and short description (20 words or less)
  • Resume or CV

Golden Jubilee Scholarship (New Brunswick students)

Value: $5,000 (non-renewable)
Deadline: October 20

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s coronation, the Province of New Brunswick established the Golden Jubilee Scholarship in 2002.

The Province provides a total of $20,000 annually distributed equally between the four public universities – University of New Brunswick, Université de Moncton, St. Thomas University and ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Allison University.

Each university offers one Golden Jubilee Scholarship valued at $5,000 annually to an eligible student.

Eligibility:

  • a New Brunswick resident, according to the New Brunswick Student Financial Services guidelines for provincial residency status at the time of receipt of the scholarship
  • enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree program in one of the four public universities of New Brunswick
  • a third year student going into fourth year of a four-year program or be a fourth year student going into fifth year of a five-year program

All scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence (as defined by the institution) and the applicant’s financial needs (as defined by the New Brunswick Student Financial Services).

Application: Golden Jubilee Application

The Honorable Catherine Callbeck Award (PEI students)

Value: no less than $3,000
Deadline: TBA

Eligibility:

  • Awarded to students from Prince Edward Island entering their second, third, or fourth year of study with demonstrated financial need
  • Preference to Commerce students
  • Recipients are eligible to receive this award more than once
McKenna School Upper-Year Scholarship (PPE students)

Value: $5,000 (non-renewable)
Deadline: May 15

In September 2020, the Frank McKenna School of Philosophy, Politics, and Economics was established at ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Allison. These upper-year scholarships are part of the new, prestigious McKenna Scholars program.

Quantity: 3

Eligibility:

  • returning students majoring in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE)
  • GPA of 3.3 or higher (in previous two terms)
  • preference will be given to students who have not previously received the award

How to apply:

Eligible students must submit the following:

  • cover letter highlighting community/university engagement and work experience
  • a resume or CV

Wendall and Jean Halliday MacKay Award in Environmental Leadership

Value: $2,400
Deadline: March 31

The Wendall and Jean Halliday MacKay Award in Environmental Leadership was established to recognize and encourage environmental leadership amount ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Allison students.

Quantity: 3

Eligibility:

  • students at any level or program of study are eligible for consideration for this award
  • must be registered in or entering a program which provides learning opportunities and research focused on the environment. These include but are not limited to: environmental science, environmental studies, biology, geography, chemistry, sociology, religious studies, or philosophy
  • must demonstrate financial need

How to apply:

To be considered for the award students must either apply for or be nominated for this award by submitting the MacKay Award in Environmental Leadership application form. Nominations are accepted from any member of the University community.
